There is a great contradiction between the church’s discourse regarding the principles it promulgates and the actions of some of its priests and the institution regarding the issue of sexual abuse. Love for one’s neighbor, a sense of justice, being clean of heart, free from sin, protecting the weakest, being honest, are some of the principles that are promulgated and required of the faithful but not of their priests.

It is easy to preach and just as easy to ignore and try to cover up the faults that one commits even if they go against the most basic principles of the church. Is it a case that those principles are only to preach and seek to be and have authority over others through them?

Expose this contradiction, which is not accidental or occasional, so that we are all aware of being more critical of our environment and not being fooled by false symbols of authority.

Starting in the 1980s, multiple cases of abuse of minors by priests and the cover-up and complacency of the church institution over the years came to light. More than 130 priests abused more than 10,000 young people, mostly men. Today cases continue to come to light.
